Live Transmission from Tampa Bay: 4K to Control Rooms Around the Globe, Live to Any Platform

Your cameras here. Your control room anywhere. Or your audience, direct. Shear Media Studios in St. Petersburg is equipped for the full range of live production: broadcast-grade REMI contribution to a network control room in Chicago, London, Toronto or Sydney, and live streaming straight to YouTube, TikTok Live, Instagram Live, Twitch or LinkedIn. From an Australian broadcast network to TikTok Live, one facility handles both.

Built on the Appear X20

Contribution at Shear Media Studios runs on the Appear X20, the same modular broadcast processing platform network engineers already run in their own plant. The X20 is a 2RU modular chassis built for SDI, IP and hybrid workflows, used by broadcasters for contribution, facility interconnect and REMI production. It is not a consumer encoder. It is not a cloud-based stream. When your ingest receives a feed from Studio G, it is receiving a signal the X20 was designed to send.

Codec, transport and redundancy parameters for your show are confirmed with your network engineer on the technical pre-call.

4K to Your Control Room: REMI

REMI, the Remote Integration Model, is how major networks produce live sports and news from a remote site without sending a production truck: cameras at the venue, control room at home. Shear Media Studios is equipped as that remote site. We put your talent on a stage in St. Petersburg, send four, five or more cameras in 4K to your control room in real time, and bring your program and confidence feeds back so the floor here is in step with the gallery there.

Where your control room can be: Chicago · London · Toronto · Sydney · anywhere with a broadcast ingest. If your gallery takes contribution feeds, we can reach it.

REMI vs. Streaming: Two Different Pipes

A REMI send delivers:

  • Every camera, individually

  • To a control room, for a director

  • In real time, so the network cuts live

  • Program and confidence returns to the floor

A live stream delivers:

  • One finished program feed

  • To a platform, for viewers

  • With a few seconds of delay

  • No return path needed

Most studios can do the second. Shear Media Studios does both, from the same floor, on the same day.

Live Streams to Any Platform

When the destination is an audience instead of a control room, we switch the show in our own control room and send a finished program to YouTube, TikTok Live, Instagram Live, Twitch, LinkedIn Live, Facebook or a private event platform. Multi-camera, graphics, lower thirds, remote guests, and one stream or several platforms at once. Live streaming is available on any studio booking; see rates and packages.

On the Floor

  • Main control room: the SMS gallery, for shows we cut here or as a backup cut

  • Mini control rooms: parallel productions, a producer's feed, second-screen

  • On location: the same contribution path from a venue or arena

  • Studio G: 5,800 sq ft, 18-ft ceiling, three bay doors, vehicle access. The multi-camera stage.

  • Studio A: 2,800 sq ft, 180° white cyclorama, 14-ft lighting grid

  • Five podcast configurations: any of them a live source

How a Booking Runs

  1. Technical call. Your ingest or platform, our path.

  2. Line check with your control room, or a stream test to your platform.

  3. Show day. Cameras, returns, comms, graphics.

  4. ISO recordings delivered as backup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is REMI?
Remote Integration Model: cameras and talent at a remote site, Shear Media Studios in St. Petersburg, and the director, switcher and graphics at the network's home control room. Every camera travels to the gallery in real time; the network cuts the show there; program and confidence feeds come back to the floor here.

Is this the same as a livestream?
No. A stream sends one finished picture to a platform, on a delay, with no return path. A REMI send delivers every camera individually, in real time, to a control room for live switching, with return video to the floor. The receiving end is a broadcast ingest, not a CDN. We do both.

What resolution and frame rate?
4K at broadcast frame rates. Codec and transport parameters are confirmed on the technical pre-call.

What's the latency to our control room?
Determined by the contribution path and confirmed on the technical pre-call with your network engineer.

Can you stream to more than one platform at once?
Yes. Destinations and the stream configuration are confirmed before show day.

Can you do this from a venue?
Yes. The same contribution path runs from a venue or arena. Talk to us about the location and lead time.

What if the link drops?
Redundancy and backup path are confirmed on the technical pre-call.

Where are you?
12100 28th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33716. About 20 minutes from Tampa International.
